Ancajas off to US on Sept. 17

FORMER International Boxing Federation super-flyweight king Jerwin “Pretty Boy” Ancajas of Panabo City will leave for the United States on September 17 for his much awaited rematch with Fernando “Pumita,” Martinez of Argentina.

The 12-round bout is set on October 8 at the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California.

“Yes, we already have tickets,” said Ancajas’ manager-trainer Joven Jimenez.

Accompanying them are boxers John Mark Alimane and Fernando Parcon. They are flying to Los Angeles City where they will stay for at least three weeks,

“It's just a house. Nothing has been said yet,” said Jimenez.

Jimenez said that the 30-year-old Ancajas was in very good condition during his training in Magallanes, Cavite.

“Jerwin was able to take the weight early today,” he said.

Ancajas is on target and has 10 pounds remaining already.

“Yes, his condition is better now,” said Jimenez.

Ancajas is also being helped out by nutritional, conditioning and sports psychology of the Philippine Sports Commission.

Ancajas is holding a 33-2-2 win-loss-draw record with 22 knockouts while Martinez, 31, has a record of 14-0 with eight knockouts.
