Villanueva to fight Sangtong in Pakistan Today

FORMER World Boxing Organisation Asia Pacific bantamweight champion Arthur “King” Villanueva of Bacolod City arrived in Pakistan to fight Jakpan Sangtong of Thailand for the World Boxing Association Asia South bantamweight title on June 11 in Pakistan.

Villanueva arrived together with Darwin Miller and trainer Jayvee Alipio of Highland Boxing Stable.

Villanueva and Sangtong both made it to the official weigh-in yesterday at 115 pounds.

“I haven't seen his style yet, but based on the record he really has strength so I can't hurry and I have to adjust to the fight,” said Villanueva.

Villanueva arrived from Baguio City wherein he sparred with Jelbirt Gomera (14-7-2, 7KO), Herlan Gomez (4-0, 2KO) and Garen Diagan (8-2-0, 4KOs).

In his last fight, Villanueva beat Bryan Tamayo of Samar by unanimous decision last March 27 in Mandaue City.

Villanueva earlier lost to Nordine Qubaali of France for the WBC World bantamweight title by a 6th round retirement last July 6, 2019 in Astana.

Sangtong, on the other hand, already has six fights this year.

The last was against Suthiphong Sirinai by a TKO in the 1st round last May 1, 2022 in Pathum Thani.

Earlier, Sangtong also knocked out Weera Sabaibang in the 1st round for the vacant Thai super flyweight title in Pathum Thani.
