DAVAO CITY – Eumir Felix Marcial of Zamboanga City made sure that he will go into the semifinals by knocking out Arman Darchinyan of Armenia in the 1st round of the quarterfinals of the Olympics men’s middleweight (69-75 kg) today at the Kokugikan Arena in Japan.
The 25-year-old Marcial connected unanswered left-right combinations at Darchinyan, who was first given a standing-eight count before he was knocked out by Marcial in Round 1.
Marcial improved his amateur record to 70 wins with 17 knockouts against 18 loses while Darchinyan suffered his 17 defeats against 23 wins.
Marcial and Dharchinyan have both turned pro with one professional bout each. They were both trained by Hall of Famer Freddie Roach in their pro fights.
Darchinyan stopped Kendall Mayes Taylor in Round 2 of their 4-round bout on Oct. 27, 2019 in Hollywood, CA while Marcial won by 4-rounds unanimous decision over Andrew Whitfield on Dec. 16, 2020 in Los Angeles.
