DAVAO CITY (July 27) – Nesty “Nesh” Petecio of Santa Cruz, Davao del Sur will fight Yeni Arias of Colombia at 10 a.m. today in the XXXII Olympic quarterfinal round of women’s featherweight division at the Kokugikan Arena in Japan. The winner will enter the semifinals and will be assured of a medal finish.
The 30-year-old Arias (13W-8L) is a bronze medalist in the 2019 Pan American Games. Petecio, however, is confident she will hurdle the Colombian.
Petecio (62W-19L, 1KO) earlier beat the top seed and world no. 1 in Chinese Taipei’s Lin Yu-Ting via a 3-2 split decision.
In her first bout, the 29-year-old Petecio defeated Democratic Republic of Congo’s Marcelat Sakobi Matshu.
Meanwhile, Eumir Felix Marcial makes his first fight against Younes Nemouchi of Algeria in the 69-76kg division at 10:48 a.m. on Thursday, while Irish Magno takes on Thailand’s Jutamas Jitpong in the 48-51kg. at 12:24 p.m.
Carlo Paalam will fight Algeria’s Mohamed Flissi on Saturday at 10:48 a.m.
