Novelty Chess Club Board of Director Dandel Fernandez of the Philippines finished in second place to Candidate Master (CM) Duane Rowe of Jamaica in the 8th Abu Dhabi Classic Chess Tournament-FIDE rated held in Abu Dhabi Chess and Culture Club in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates last Saturday (January 4, 2020).

Fernandez, a Maynilad Water Employee and 2019 Executive Grand Prix Overall topnotcher seized the second spot with 8.0 points, half point behind with eventual champion Rowe (8.5 points) who inflicted the only loses of Fernandez in the fifth round.

However, Fernandez came back with a four straight wins in as many rounds to claim second place.
