FILIPINO Grandmaster Mark Paragua reinforced his position as one of the Philippines' top chess players when he ruled Winter Chess Championship last December 17, 2017 in Milpitas, California.
The Bulacan ace Paragua toppled Steven Zierk in the fifth and final round to finish with 4.5 points aftwer five games of play. However, Paragua took the title with a superior quotient against fellow 4.5 pointers Cameron Wheeler.
Teddy Coleman won solo third with 4.0 points.
Another Filipino entry Conrado Diaz, a certified United States Chess Fedeation (USCF) master meantime toppled Eliam Chang to finish in a tie for 4th to 8th places in the company of GM Conrad Holt, Ivan Ke, Philip Perepelitsky and David Rupell.
