Interim WBA Welterweight Champion Keith Thurman is picking Floyd Mayweather, Jr. to win over Manny Pacquiao on May 2, 2015. Thurman told Latin Post:
?How does Floyd want to win? If Floyd wants to win hands down, he?s going to win hands down. If Floyd wants to make it controversial, he?ll make it controversial. If Floyd wants to not get touched, he won?t get touched. He?s not going to be on the ropes. He?s not going to give Manny Pacquiao a shot. Manny?s going to have to work for everything come May 2.?
Former Juan Manuel Marquez strength and conditioning coach Memo Heredia thought Mayweather should be well-conditioned to win when he was quoted by Boxing Scene:
"I think after the Maidana fight Floyd knows he needs to be in better shape for May 2nd. He knows he needs to be more conditioned. You need to be 100% or 200% to fight Manny. Manny is a volume puncher and throws a lot of punches...Mayweather is super fast but I haven't really seen him punch anybody hard. I haven't seen him throw any heavy punches like he used to back in the day. Maybe that is something he needs to work on, punching power, instead of just relying on speed because now you are going to havetwo guys going at it with speed. Speed versus speed is going to be more difficult for the judges to tell the winner. Pacquiao is explosive and accurate. Floyd doesn't waste punches. He throws and connects but I think it's possible."
Frank Trigg, former middleweight contender, chose Pacquiao when he was interviewed by Fight Hub TV:
"Now we're looking at guys who are on the downside of their careers. I think Pacquiao still wins it because he's so high active. And if you look at Mayweather's style, it's built for a right-handed fighter...The way he stands and lifts his elbow and kind of keeps it out...Manny's game is specifically built to beat a right-handed fighter, whereas Mayweather's game is specifically built to beat a right-handed fighter...well, Manny's left-handed, so his [Mayweather's] whole style has to change up. He can't do that same style because Manny's gonna hit him in the ribs, Manny's gonna come over the top and hit him in the head because Manny's got a great right hook. Mayweather's usually good when guys aren't turning on him, but Manny turns, turns, turns the entire time."
Boxing legend Roy Jones, Jr. still believed Mayweather still has the skill as told to Boxing Scene:
"The fact that he (Mayweather) can't do things at 38 that he did at 28 makes him more dangerous. He?s always been a great puncher, but he's never had to use it because he was so much better than everyone skilfully, and he had so much athleticism that he hasn't had to depend on his punching power. Pacquiao may think he'll be able to outwork him and not worry about (Mayweather's) power because he hasn't had to use it. Now that he's gotten older he will use his power, and that's going to be a bigger problem for Pacquiao. Because, to me, the only way for him to beat Pacquiao is to get him out of there."
