IRON MIKE TYSON INVADES YAQUI LOPEZ AMATEUR BOXING EVENT WITH CHEERS FROM HIS FANS

This past weekend the city of Stockton, California, was overwhelmed by the ?BADDEST MAN ON THE PLANET? Mike Tyson. The youngest heavyweight champion of the world at the age of 20, in 1986 was in town for his one man stage show, UNDISPUTED: TRUTH that was a sell-out.

The main event was to showcase the 15 year old Filipino-American super middleweight Michael Ridgley who sports a record of 15-0 as an amateur. Due to the illness of his opponent and no late substitute, his fight was cancelled. The Yaqui Lopez stable was still ready to showcase their stars.

The event started with a huge bang as one of Lopez?s top bantamweights Mexican-American Mario Velasquez pitted against Paul Scott of the PAL Police Athletic League from Vacaville California. The quick heavy fisted Velasquez used a left hook to score a devastating stoppage in the first round. The fans in attendance rose to their feet and gave and a rousing applause amazed at the skills of Velasquez. ?When I felt that left hand connect, I knew he would go down,? Velasquez stated.

The second fighter from the Lopez gym was 67 pound Victor Manriquez who was going against David Villalobos of the Felipe boxing stable from Lathrop California. In a hard fought battle, two small warriors were going at it from the start of the first round to the third and final round as Manriquez pulled out the victory.

With the fans waiting for the female action and the main event, Lopez female boxer 16 year old Mexican/American Adriana ?BABY DOLL? Ramirez was pitted against Filipino/American southpaw Katrina Nabe of the USF University of San Francisco boxing gym of San Francisco, California.

In a tough anticipated fight for both fighters, it was a see saw battle. Both fighters were ready to unload all their arsenals and with fans standing on their feet, both fighters engaged with big shots and pure precision punches that got the respect of each other for the next three rounds of excitement.

In the end, the judges gave it to Ramirez and with Nabe asking for a rematch; Ramirez said, ?I am open to a rematch and she was a very tough opponent.?

Other fights included:

Puerto Rican/ Mexican-American 15 year old amateur super middleweight Amisael Jimenez rated number one in the United States was up against Joeshon James who is also rated number 3 in the United States in a war that got best fight of the night. The fans were pumped up for this fight knowing the reputation of both fighters as true warriors in the ring.

Jimenez proved too tough for James with lighting jabs and rights that proved costly for James. Jimenez came out with the victory.

Germain Galvez won over Pedro Campos (73 lbs.)

Joseph James won over Mustafa Moore (157 lbs.)

Damien Sanchez won over Michael Steele (100 lbs.)

Devante Sparks won BY UD over Phil Perey (143 lbs.)

Terrell Windom won by UD over Emmanuel Natividad (143 lbs.)

Moises Villalobos won by stoppage over Luciano Tabios (67 lbs.)

Jaime Manuel won over Anthony Garnica (128 lbs.)

The event was graced by Filipino/American IBA International Boxing Association Super Flyweight Champion Bruno Escalante who was born in Sibonga, Cebu Philippines, and also in attendance was former WBA World Light Welterweight Champion Loreto Garza and two time world champion Tony ?The Tiger? Lopez.

The Yaqui Lopez ? FIGHT FOR A CAUSE FUNDRAISER? was a huge success by the hardworking volunteers who put this show together and a big sponsorship from Dr.Joseph T. Zeiter of the Zeiter Eye Medical Group Inc. And also to Corona Beer.

A fighter at heart, Lopez wakes up at 4:30 a.m. and goes for a nice walk. His wife, Beno Lopez loves that her husband is active and boxing is his passion. Lopez can remember every fight he had, he once said he didn?t get hit that much as he always rolled with his punches.

Lopez was trained by Filipino Danny Dagumbat who was also the trainer and manager of the legend from the Philippines, Gabriel ?Flash? Elorde. Lopez always loves to tell stories of the times he met the legend Elorde.

The International Hall of Fame Inductee and 5 time world Light Heavyweight Challenger, Lopez is instrumental in helping the youths achieve there goals in boxing in his non profit boxing gym.
