Michael Farenas is 100 % focused on title eliminator bout against Mark Davis

Michael ?Hammer Fist? Farenas knows that an opportunity to secure a spot in fighting for a world title comes few and far between. And that is why the 30 year old warrior from Gubat, Sorsogon in the Philippines is taking a very serious approach on his upcoming title eliminator bout against fellow ranked contender Mark ?Too Sharp? Davis this Wednesday in Connecticut.

The two will battle for the right to challenge for the International Boxing Federation (IBF) Junior Lightweight (130 pound) belt in the future which will also be contested next week by current champion Argenis Mendez and challenger Rances Barthelemy.

?One hundred percent, one hundred percent.? was Farenas? reply when asked on how focused he is on his fight on Wednesday.

?Ito na ang last baraha ko. Kailangan kong manalo dito. ?Farenas stated with certainty.
(This is my last card. I need to win in this one.)

Knowing that this could be his last chance to come close to a world title contention, Farenas has been grinding it hard at the gym, preparing for two months against the undefeated Davis.

He started his training in Manila in May and flew to Los Angeles in early June to continue his training at the Wild Card Gym of Freddie Roach, accumulating more than 120 rounds of sparring overall.

Roach was himself involved in Farenas? training. He chose the suitable sparring partners for him for this camp.

?Binibigyan ako ni Freddie ng kung ano yung style ng kalaban ko at kung ano ang mas maganda para sa training, iyon ang ibinibigay ni Freddie, kaya maganda ang ensayo ang ensayo ko sa L.A.?

(Freddie presents me with spar mates that are of my opponent?s style and whatever that is good for this training, Freddie gives it to me, my training in L.A. has been great.)

Farenas mainly trained with Roach?s first hand, Filipino boxing coach Marvin Somodio while at the Wild Card Gym and Somodio will be the main man behind his corner this Wednesday night at the Foxwoods Resort in Mashantucket, Connecticut. Veteran cut man, Lenny De Jesus will be there to assist as well.

Farenas is expecting a tough fight against Davis, whom they think will be running around the ring of Foxwoods when the bell starts. Cutting the ring and anticipating where Davis will go will be one of their goals for the fight he said.

?Expected naming na tatakbo yun kalaban, kaya ang focus naming ay maghabol at pressure.?

(We expect him to run, and that is why our focus is to come after him and pressure him.)

Farenas, who is ranked Number 4 on the latest IBF rankings is on track to make the 130 pound weight limit for Tuesday?s weigh-in without any difficulty. He was only a pound above the limit at 131 pounds Monday night.

Farenas vs. Davis will be the main event of the night, and their title eliminator bout will be carried live by ESPN via their Friday Night Fight boxing series starting at 9 pm Wednesday.
