MANILA (July 11) PNA -- Former Philippine national team standout Vic ?Vicious? Saludar has made some changes in his fighting style as he makes his pro debut on Saturday in the undercard of the Pinoy Pride XXI ?When Worlds Collide? at the Grand Ballroom of the posh Solaire Resort and Casino.
The 5-4 Saludar said he is adjusting his fight style in the pros unlike in his amateur days when he was known for his speed.
?Sa pro kailangan pacing lang (In the pro fights, pacing is important),? Saludar told sportswriters shortly after the pre-fight press conference at the Solaire Ballroom 4 and 5 yesterday.
The 22-year old Saludar will be facing Manila?s Juanito Hundante who has a 1-win 1-loss ring record.
?Paningkamutan nako na mudaug sa akong unang fight. Unta mulampos ko diri sa pro (I will try hard to win my first fight. I hope I will succeed in the pros),? he said.
Saludar trained under the watchful eyes of his brother Ariel for two months in Polomolok. He is the youngest of three boxing brothers. His elder brothers are Froilan (who is now an undefeated pro boxer with 16 wins, 11 KOs with only one draw) and Asian Games flyweight champion Rey.
Saludar was a 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games bronze medalist and a steady contender winning two Palarong Pambansa gold medals and six national championship gold medals. The pride of Polomolok, South Cotabato was also named ?best fighter of the tournament? during the 31st Tammer Cup held in Tampere, Finland.
Saludar signed up with the country?s premier boxing outfit ALA Boxing Promotion, which is giving opportunities to boxers who are eager to elevate their careers and chance to turn dreams into reality. LITO DELOS REYES
