Injured Jean Pascal Cruises to Victory (Photos)

PhilBoxing.com

Montreal, Canada - The day finally came when Jean Pascal made his long awaited return to the ring in front of his hometown fans in Montreal, Canada. The packed Bell Center went ballistic when they announced Pascal?s name as the fans bare witness to Pascal?s flamboyant choreographed shadow box-dance stage show before entering the ring. It was well deserved grand reception for one of the biggest attractions in boxing coming out of the fight town capital of Canada.

When the bell rang, Jean Pascal started very cautious and studied Aleksy Kuziemski?s body movements in the first round like a cat on the prowl waiting for their moment to pounce at their prey. Pascal and Kuziemski was reading each others timing and exchanged a few jabs to close out the round.

Once Pascal shook off his ring rust and both warmed up to each other in the ring, Kuziemski moved forward and launched his jabs and made his way forward by applying pressure. Pascal waited for his opponent to come in and countered with timely jabs followed powerful precision hooks to the body and head. Pascal looked a bit slower and overly cautious with applying any offensive pressure, however his connect rate with power punches were on mark against Kuziemski who was never a threat with his punches that lacked authority the majority of the time while they were engaged in battle.

Pascal easily punished Kuziemski one punch at a time and put on a counter punching clinic until the fourth round when Pascal re-aggravated an old injury on his left shoulder. Pascal had to continue fighting mostly with his right hand the rest of the fight while his corner attended to his separated shoulder in between rounds. Pascal was able to score 2 flash knock downs with his savvy powerful counter punches on Kuziemski.

In two last 2 rounds, Kuziemski got hit with several power punches to the head, he had to hold on for dear life when he got wobbled. Unfortunately Pascal could not close out the fight and follow up with offensive combinations due to the injury he sustained.

Jean Pascal (27-2-1 16KO) won by Unanimous Decision 100-88, 98-90, 98-90. It is expected that Pascal will fight Chad Dawson next year when his separated shoulder heals.
