ADCC Submission Wrestling World Championship: Filipino Jerry Legaspi wins Philippine's first gold medal By Marlon Bernardino PhilBoxing.com Sun, 04 Nov 2012 Manila -- Filipino Jerry Legaspi of Team Kamphius-Fabricio won country's first gold medal by beating Jumat Lies Mansor of BJJ Borneo-Malaysia in the finals of Male Masters Beginner division Under 76.9 Kg at the start of Abu Dhabi Combat Club (ADCC) Asia-Pacific World Qualifying Trials (Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu) at the SM Mall of Asia, Music Hall, Pasay City on Saturday. The 35-year-old Muay-Thai instructor from Quezon City, beat the Malay fighter in a close 7-5 match. Legaspi, playing under the banner of KMA Mixed Martial Arts Academy in Rada Street, Makati City, dominated entire fight to take the title. "It's what I've always dreamed of winning the coveted gold medal," said the reigning Pan Asian and World Jujitsu champion Legaspi, who earlier beat Aristotle Sayas of Team Deftac to advance to the finals. However, compatriots and fellow Team Kamphius-Fabricio team mates Ivy Alcala, Jonna Baquillac and Michael Mejia fell short to their respective rivals. Alcala bowed to Fazi Abas of BJJ Borneo-Malaysia, Arm Bar, 3 minutes, 50 seconds in the finals of Female Adults beginner division Under 52 Kg, Baquillac was yielded to Jasmine Cuison of Team Deptac, Rear naked Choke, 3.05 minutes in the semifinals of Female Adults beginner division over 58 kg and Mejia, a lawyer by profession succumbed to Dokyun Kung of Korea in the finals of Male Masters Beginner division Under 98.9 Kg. Meanwhile, Ankuso Mafin of Team Gracie of Sydney, Australia won the gold medal in the Male Masters Beginner division. The two-day (Saturday and Sunday) competition is organized by ADCC Asia President Stephen Khampis. Four Filipino headed by multi-tilist John Baylon, Neil Fereira, KC Cruz and Ralp Go will seeing in action on Sunday for the advanced category with the winner will advance to the 2013 ADCC World Championship. Over 150 players coming from Australia, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Guam, Thailand, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Philippines show their wares in the said event.
