GOLDEN BOY LINING UP TITLE SHOTS FOR GORRES, PE?ALOSA
By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Mon, 23 Oct 2006
Golden Boy Promotions of the great Oscar De La Hoya is busy lining up title shots for OPBF super flyweight champion Z “The Dream" Gorres and former WBC super flyweight champion Gerry Pe?alosa who both scored smashing knockout victories over the weekend.
Golden Boy Promotions vice president and international matchmaker Eric Gomez told Viva Sports/Manila Standard Today in an overseas telephone conversation that he was looking at a December 2 title shot for Gorres possibly against Fernando Montiel.
Gorres, looking better than ever before scored a smashing fourth round TKO against tough Indonesian Sonny Manakane whose corner threw in the towel ay 1:11 of the fourth round as Gorres hammered the Indonesian with a barrage of punches.
Gomez who was at ringside to watch Pe?alosa demolish former WBO champion and No.1 ranked Mauricio Martinez of Panama said Pe?alosa looked terrific and was “in perfect condition.”
Gomez said Pe?alosa would probably get a title shot sometime early next year against “whoever he would like.”
Pe?alosa nailed Martinez with a cracking left in the opening round to send him to the canvas and repeated the feat in the fourth round. The classy southpaw cracked Martinez with another left that sent him staggering backwards and then pounced on the hapless former world bantamweight champion with a flurry of blows that ended the fight.
The 34 year old Pe?alosa said he planned to return home on Wednesday for a brief rest before returning to Los Angeles to continue training at the Wild Card Gym of Freddie Roach.
