ALLANIC WINS IMPRESIVELY IN JAPAN
By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Tue, 10 Oct 2006
Promising young super flyweight Robert Allanic scored an impressive win in his overseas debut when he scored an eighth round TKO over Hiroaki Kusunoki of Japan at the IMP Hall in Osaka, Sunday.
The lanky Allanic who is a prot?g? of longtime Cebu resident Cliff Smart proved too good for Kusunoki forcing a stoppage at 2:47 of the eighth round to up his record to 15-1 with 7 knockouts while the Japanese dropped to 10-5-2 with 8 KO?s.
Two other fighters who, like Allanic, are from the famed ALA Gym of respected boxing patron Tony Aldeguer also scored important victories. Louie Bantigue, another super flyweight scored a spectacular first round knockout when he sent Japan?s Satoru Uchida crashing to the canvas and out for the count with a vicious uppercut at 2:05 of the very first round while flyweight Rocky Fuentes hammered undefeated Yuki Nasu but was strangely won only by a split decision which even well known Japanese matchmaker, manager and journalist Joe Koizumi said was debatable.
Koizumi in fact reported that the hard-hitting Fuentes appeared to have the upperhand all the way to boost his record to 16-5-2 with 10 knockouts while Nasu who suffered his first defeat dropped to 12-1 with 9 KO?s.
JR Sollano fighting out of the stable of Rex ?Wakee? Salud also scored a smashing first round knockout over Japan?s Hayato Takabayashi in a scheduled ten round bout. The Filipino super featherweight nailed Takabayshi with a perfectly timed right to end the fight ay 2:37 of the opening round. Sollano improved to 9-5-6 with 7 KO?s.
However, two Filipino boxers were beaten by their Japanese opponents. Former flyweight champion Federico Catubay lost a lopsided ten round decision to flyweight Takahiro Hisataka in a ten rounder while Philippine lightweight champion Dexter Delada from the Wakee Salud stable was knocked out in the second round by Koji Samejima. The lanky southpaw dropped Samejima with a right hook but the Japanese rallied and caught Delada with a hard right to have him counted out at 0:52 of the second round.
