GRANDMASTER (GM) Joseph Sanchez of the Philippines subdued Kevin Noiroux of France in the seventh round yesterday of the Cappelle la Grande International Open Chess Championships in Cappelle la Grande, France.
The Cebu native Sanchez raised his total 4.5 points. His eight round opponent is IM Arnaud Payen of France.
GM Pentala Harikrishna defeated countryman GM Chanda Sandipan to create a two-way tie for first with another Indian GM ace Parimarjan Negi, who brought downed IM Jacek Tomczak of Poland. Harikrishna and Negi, both tallied 6 points apiece to share the leadership board.
In local shore, Paulo Cristobal of San Sebastian College swept all his seven matches to emerged over-all champion in the just ended Rector's Chess Cup Under 16 last March 3 in Don Bosco, Makati City. Juan Carlos Presente of San Jose Academy of Bulacan finished second with 6 points followed by 3rd and 4th placers John Gabriel Tabligan of Las Pinas and Ryan Christian Magtabog of National University who scored 5.5 points each.
