PHILIPPINE VOLCANOES STUN DEFENDING CHAMPS KOREA IN SHANGHAI RUGBY SEVENS

The Philippine ?Volcanoes? rugby team has shocked defending champions and No. 1 seeds South Korea on the opening day of the Shanghai Rugby Sevens.
The Volcanoes beat the Koreans 19-14 after earlier running roughshod over the United Arab Emirates 24-7 and loom as the team to beat.
The Volcanoes were ranked No. 5 going into the tournament but showing remarkable skill and tenacity pulled off back-to-back wins to head Group 2.
They will now face the team that finishes second in Group D where the teams are China, Sri Lanka and Kazakhstan.
Group B is composed of powerhouse Japan, Thailand and Chinese-Taipei while Group C is made up of Hongkong, Malaysia and Mongolia.
The ?Volcanoes? very much like the Azkals football team is made up largely by Fil-foreigners including Australians and Britons one of whose parents are Filipinos and some homegrown players.
The line-up for the Shanghai Sevens was announced as Mark Chatting, Justin Coveney, Chris Everingham, Chris Hitch, Jake Letts, Jon Morales, Harry Morris, Oliver Saunders, Kenny Stern, Eric Tai, Andrew Wolff, Rupert Zappia.
The Shanghai Sevens in the first stop in the HSBC Asian S evens Series and hosts the top 12 sides from across the continent.
