JACA GETS ANOTHER FOE IN PACQUIAO CARD!
By Salven L. Lagumbay PhilBoxing.com Sun, 15 Jan 2006
Sibulan, Negros-raised Jimrex Jaca, the Filipino fighter slated to see action in the undercard of the Manny Pacquiao-Erik Morales rematch on January 22, will face a new foe in John Nolasco in an 8-round tussle meant to showcase the Filipino in the world boxing community.
Jaca, who grew up in a military camp and made a living as a young boy fighting for a fee, was originally slated to face Mexican Ivan Valle, before organizers decided to pit him agains the Dominican Republic-born Nolasco, who is fighting out of Phoenix, Arizona.
The 22-year-old southpaw Jaca, managed by Cebuano kingmaker Rex "Wakee" Salud, is the country's super-featherweight champion and once ruled as the OPBF superbantam, RP superbantam and RP bantam titleholder. He parades a 24-1-1 win-loss-draw record with 11 KO's, and is considered one of the country's brightest hopes for a world crown.
"I have been training well for this fight, and I want to give honor to my family and the people of Sibulan, Negros Oriental," said the soft-spoken Jaca, in an interview while awaiting for his turn for interview at the US Embassy early last week. Jaca came close to not being issued a US visa to travel to the United States due to lack of pertinent documents, but secured it just in time to join Pacquiao in training at the Wild Card Gym.
The 30-year-old Nolasco, who stands just a shade taller than Jaca, goes into the fight with a record of 15-4-4, 6 KO's and is expected to give the Filipino a tough test in their 8-round rumble.
