THE WHOLE WESTERN MINDANAO EAGERLY ANTICIPATING BOXING EVENT ON OCTOBER 10 AT ZAMBOANGA CITY COLISEUM

GERRY ?FEARLESS? PEŇALOSA HEADLINES THE BOXING SHOW

Western Mindanao is hungry for boxing shows, which display world-class Filipino boxers going up against worthy foreign opponents.

The people from the provinces of Sulu, Basilan, Tawi-Tawi, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Del Norte and Zamboanga Sibugay will not hesitate to travel to Zamboanga City just to witness their Filipino boxing idols in the flesh.

In this part of Mindanao, the last ?world-class? showcase of the sweet science was more than 2 years ago, more specifically on July 27, 2008, wherein Zamboangue?o Eric Canoy fought Thai Terdsak Jandaeng Kokietgym for the WBO Oriental Featherweight Championship. The spectacular boxing show was promoted by Congressman Erico Basilio ?Erbie? Fabian, through his Blue Stallion Boxing Promotions.

This writer, being a native of Aurora, Zamboanga del Sur, is himself very eager that his region will be the venue of another boxing extravaganza.

Now, the time has come.

After a long wait, Cong. Erbie Fabian is tirelessly putting up another entertaining boxing event on October 10, Sunday, featuring world-rated pugilists from the Philippines fighting world-rated boxers from other countries as part of Zamboanga City?s annual celebration of Zamboanga Hermosa Festival. The Zamboanga Hermosa Festival is a 12-day pre-fiesta round of festivities that will culminate on October 12 ? the Feast of the Lady of the Pilar, the city?s patron saint.

The show dubbed as ?Golpe Golpe na Zamboanga: The Last Hurrah? is a co-promotion of Blue Stallion Boxing Promotions in cooperation with Gerry Pe?alosa.

The main event of the 50-round fight card is a fight between two-time world champion, Gerry ?Fearless? Pe?alosa (54-8-2, 36 KOs) who climbs the ring for the last time against Thai number one bantamweight Yodsaengkengn ?Robot? Kiatmungmee (12-2-0, 8 KOs) scheduled for 10 rounds.

To serve as supporting man events, Michael Fare?as (28-3-3, 25 KOs) and Jimrex Jaca (31-6-3, 16 KOs) will face separate Korean opponents. Fare?as will face Jung-Hoon Kim (8-9-0, 4 KOs) while Jaca will square off against Jong-Yoon Choi (6-1-0, 2 KOs).
What makes this boxing show even more meaningful are the charitable and philanthropic hearts of the co-promoters. Cong. Fabian has named the Philippine National Red Cross local Chapter as the beneficiary of the bout. Funds raised will go to the repair and improvement of the blood bank facilities at Pettit Barracks.

On the part of the San Carlos City Negros Occidental native, who will fight in the headliner, he has already committed himself to name retired Filipino boxer Z Gorres as his beneficiary. Pe?alosa earlier told Dr. Rene Bonsubre (a writer for www.philboxing.com and Cebu Daily News, who is also a physician by profession as well as an accredited ring physician) that the proceeds of this bout will be given to Gorres to help him with his medical expenses.

The slambang card will be shown on television a week after on October 17 at 1 p.m. through RPN-Solar TV.

To all the boxing aficionados in the whole Western Mindanao region, the long wait is over. Don?t miss this event because you will not only be treated with a rare showcase of boxing talent. By watching this event LIVE, you will also contribute to the Philippine National Red Cross and at the same time, help our very own Z Gorres for his fast recovery.
