Los Angeles, CA – WBO minimumweight champion Donnie Nietes of the Philippines and bantamweight contender Z Gorres will leave today for Mexico for the September 12 full-packed Latin Fury XI boxing event to be held at El Palenque de la Feria in the scenic town of Tepic in Nayarit. The Top Rank event will be headlined by the Son of a Legend Julio Cesar Chavez Jr (39-0-1 29KO) who will take on Jason LeHoullier (21-1-1 8KO) of the United States. Former Gorres foe and now the interim WBO bantamweight champion Fernando Montiel (39-2-1 29KO) will take on Alejandro Valdez (21-3-2 15KO) of Ciudad Obregon for the regular WBO bantamweight title vacated by Gerry Penalosa. Also on the deck are heavyweight Samuel Peter of Nigeria now residing in Las Vegas who takes on Ronald Bellamy of Georgia. Former world champion Jose Luis Castillo and Juan Manuel Rosas are also tapped to see action against yet to be named opponents.

Nietes and Gorres will be accompanied by trainer Edmund Villamor, AJ Banal (who was fresh from a Hawaii victory), ALA Promotions Vice-President Dennis Canete and this writer. ALA chief trainer Edito Villamor will join the team on Wednesday. The group will motor from Los Angeles to San Diego then enter Mexico via Tijuana then fly to Guadalajara the following day. From Guadalajara, the group will then proceed to Nayarit by land trip.

Nietes, who have had a long three-month training in Los Angeles due to the often postponed fight schedule, and Gorres, who had joined the team last week, had their last training session at the Wildcard Gym of Freddie Roach yesterday afternoon. By 5 pm, the group went to the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church along Sta. Monica and Alexandria where. The group was treated to a farewell party in the evening by long time supporters Ronald Sanchez and wife Carmina at the couple's house.
