NIETES VS RAMIREZ HEADLINES 3 WORLD TITLE BOUTS IN OAXACA
By Salven L. Lagumbay PhilBoxing.com Fri, 27 Feb 2009

This Saturday's (Sunday in RP) WBO minimumweight title defense by reigning champion Donnie Nietes of the Philippines against Mexican Erik Ramirez at the 13,000-capacity Auditorio Guelaguetza in Oaxaca, Mexico will headline a three world title events card promoted by Ignacio "Nacho" Huizar of KO Entertainment.
The other world title bouts pit WBA minimumweight champion Roman Gonzalez defending against Francisco Rosas on the undercard, as well as a women's world title event featuring WBC female superflyweight champion Ana Maria Torres of Mexico defending against Paulina Cardona of Colombia.
The fights will be beamed to 35 countries all over the world via Televisa, but unfortunately, the Philippines will not be one of them after one of the big television networks in the country turned down the fight as it could not sell the fight to sponsors due to the economic crisis.
Nietes and his team arrived on Thursday afternoon in Oaxaca de Juarez, and were immediately whisked away by waiting vehicles to their hotel, where the Filipino world champion then posed with Ramirez for photographers and the media.
According to Notifight, Nietes looked relaxed in the hotel, and even granted an interview to the media.
The official weigh-in is set tomorrow.
Nietes is in tremendous shape going into this fight, having trained for a long time at the famed ALA Gym, plus several weeks of training at the world-renowned Wild Card Gym of Freddie Roach before flying to Mexico.
