Amateur Softball Association of the Philippines (ASA-PHIL) President Jean Henri Lhuillier applauds the performance given by the Adamson University softball team wherein they displayed a commanding performance in their match against Hong Kong during the Asian Universities Women’s Softball Asia Cup 2024. They were able to clinch a decisive 13-0 victory against the Chinese team. From the onset, the Filipinas dominated both offensively and defensively, with standout plays from Angelu Gabriel, who tallied two hits and two RBIs, and Mary Joy Maguad, who contributed two hits and one RBI. Pitchers Reyae Villamin and Glory Alonzo combined for a no-hitter, silencing Hong Kong’s bats throughout the match.
Despite suffering a narrow 2-1 loss to powerhouse Japan the previous day, the Philippine squad bounced back with grit and determination. Adamson’s offense came alive early in the game, with crucial hits from Mae Catequista and Chastene Salarde helping to build an insurmountable lead. Hong Kong struggled to get on base, ultimately unable to overcome the pressure applied by the Filipinas’ strong defensive lineup.
ASA-PHIL President Jean Henri Lhuillier expressed his pride in the team’s performance, saying, "I am incredibly proud to see these girls in action. They have shown that Philippine softball is a force to be reckoned with, and I’m glad that the sport is gaining more recognition on the international stage. I look forward to what this team will bring in the coming matches."
Adamson University is now set to battle against India, Singapore, South Korea, and Taipei in the upcoming days, with hopes of continuing their dominant run and securing a place in the tournament’s final stages.-Marlon Bernardino -
