NY Knicks Beat Sixers, Move Ahead 3-1; Clippers Tie Series With Mavericks

PhilBoxing.com

The electric atmosphere was like the second seed Knicks were playing in their Madison Square Garden arena except that they were at the Wells Fargo arena of their seventh seed foe, the Philadelphia 76ers.

It must have rubbed off on the Knicks as they notched an inspired 97-92 victory over Joel Embiid and the 76ers pushing them to a 3-1 lead as the series goes back to New York.

A netizen felt like seeing a miniature version of the great old Chicago Bulls and he has some points. Jaden Brunson, OG Anonouby and Josh Hart seemingly essayed the role of Jordan, Pippen and Rodman in bullying the taller Sixers to defeat in this game.

Brunson was unstoppable on offense putting up 47 points, 10 assists and 4 rebounds while Anonouby supported him with 16 points and 14 rebounds plus a couple of blocks on Embiid. Hart was like Rodman minus the colorful hairdo as he pulled down 17 rebounds. For good measure, Donte Divincenzo and Miles McBride pulled a Steve Kerr act, scoring 8 and 13 points respectively aside from initiating several hustling plays.

In a fit of braggadocio, Brunson was quoted telling Tobias Harris: "You are the taller player but why it seems you are little?" He also had some points as the Knicks virtually played mostly as if they had no center. Isiah Hatenstein was there but was good for only 4 rebounds and 4 boards. Mitch Robinson was out with injury suffered in game 3.

Knicks' loud fans that fill much of the arena proved to be their vital sixth man.

Embiid with 27 points, Tyrese Maxey 23 points, Kelly Oubre, 19 points, and Harris, 10 points, tried to rally the Sixers but they were just about the Sixers who mattered.

The pressure is now on the Sixers to win the next game in New York to avoid elimination.

Meanwhile, it seemed that the LA Clippers were better off with just Paul George as the Clips defeated the #5 Dallas Mavericks, 116-111 to square their series at 2-all. Kawhi Leonard sat out this game to recover from injury.

George scored 33 points which was complemented by James Harden's 33 points as well to match Dallas's Kyrie Irving's 40 and Luka Doncic's 29 and reduced the outcome to the contribution of the supporting casts.

Which slightly went to the Clippers thru Ivica Zubac who tallied 13 markers, Tre Mann and Norman Powell who both scored 11 points each.

Derrick Jones with 14 points, PJ Washington, 10 points and Derrick Lively II with 8 points supported Irving and Doncic.

The series returns back to Los Angeles for the pivotal fifth game.

In the other scheduled games-

The sixth seed Indiana Pacers took advantage of the absence of Damien Lillard and the early ejection of big man Bobby Portis to beat the depleted third seed Milwaukee Bucks, 126-113 and moved ahead in their series, 3-1. The series returns to Milwaukee for the fifth game.

The Minnesota Timberwolves turned back a fighting Phoenix Suns 122-116 for a clean sweep of their first round series, 4-0.
