NM Jasper Faeldonia prevails

Manila---The First Chess National Master of Odiongan, Romblon Jasper Faeldonia, defeated the 20 opponents in the 1 versus 20 simultaneous exhibition match on the 2nd day of Sta. Fe Rapid Chess Tournament in Romblon over the weekend.

The game lasted for 2 hours and 49 minutes where 2 hours was given to NM Jasper and 15 minutes for each player. Sta. Fe Chess Club Vice President and Coach Noe Ramon remains the last man standing. It should be a drawn game for Noe Ramon, with 1 bishop and a king remaining against 1 pawn and 1 knight of NM Jasper. But due to time pressure, Noe Ramon missed the right combination, resulting in a knight blockade that enabled the pawn to be promoted to queen and give NM Faeldonia a perfect 20 points in the said event.

"Faeldonia-Romblon Chess Team would like to thank Sta. Fe Chess Club, especially to club President Sir Bernie Festin, for inviting us to the said event. Kudos Sta. Fe Chess Club for a very successful tournament," said proud father engr. Ernie Fetisan Faeldonia, top honcho Espana Chess Club (Manila).-Marlon Bernardino-
