GM Torre to play chess simul in Tarlac City By Marlon Bernardino PhilBoxing.com Mon, 01 Apr 2024 The 1st Asian Grandmaster and World Chess Hall of Famer GM Eugene Torre will be playing simultaneous games with young chess enthusiasts in Tarlac on April 9, 2024 (Tuesday) during the celebration of Valor day at Cafemilya Coffee shop in Luisita, Tarlac City. The exhibition and mini tournament for a cause is spearheaded by the Institute of Integrated Electrical Engineers (IIEE) Tarlac chapter led by former Chapter President Analyn Fernandez and incumbent President Jhude Estrada which aim to promote chess as avenue to foster camaraderie and to propagate IIEE organization to the community. With various chess club co-facilitating the event, NM Marlon Bernardino (Bayanihan chess club), 2021 IIEE National President Allan Anthony Alvarez (IIEE Chessmasters club), Henry Calacday (JHC chess club) and Alfred Miranda (Paniqui Tarlac chess club), the unique gathering of players and coaches would result to sharing of ideas and learning experiences in chess. The proceeds of the tournament would be used for the IIEE Oplan dagitab event on the following day, April 10, (Wednesday) where Electrical Safety Inspection and Turn-over of 5 solar street lights will be done in various schools namely: 1. Maligaya Trinity Baptist Christian Academy - Tarlac City 2. Dolores Elementary School - Tarlac City 3. San Bartolome Elementary School - Gerona, Tarlac. This event is made possible by Five V Technologies, Phelps Dodge and chess avid supporters Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineer (PSME) Foundation President Roger Reyes and the CEO of Shimmer and Shield Car Coating Jeff Bugayong. IIEE have done simultaneous and mini-tournament last December with Kamatyas IM Roderick Nava in SMX and the IIEE-Bayanihan Fide-Rated tournament last February 25 at Sentro Artista.
