Warriors Return to Form, Rout Bucks, 125-90; Atlanta Brings Back Cavaliers to Earth, 112-101

PhilBoxing.com

Curry unleashes a three-point bomb against the Bucks.

After suffering its worst defeat to Boston the other night, the Golden State Warriors got back to their deadly form to score a 125-90 rout of a surprisingly tame Milwaukee Bucks at the Chase Center in San Francisco.

Meanwhile, the Atlanta Hawks brought back the Cleveland Cavaliers, fresh from their one point win that snapped Boston's lengthy win streak, to earth with a 112-101 thrashing despite missing superstar guard Trae Young.

The Warriors were expected to still have a hangover from their 140-88 devastation in Boston but with Stephen Curry getting back to the groove in company of Jonathan Kuminga, Draymond Green and Klay Thompson, the Warriors immediately broke in front and posted a 78-58 halftime lead. The Bucks came alive in the third quarter outscoring the Warriors 23-15 to cut the lead but the Warriors detonated a 32-9 bomb in the final 12 minutes to win pulling away.

Curry led the Warriors not only outscoring Giannis Antetokoumnpo 29-23 in points but likewise outrebounding the seven foot center, 8 boards to seven. Kuminga supported Steph with 20; Green added 16 and Thompson chipped in 10. T. Jackson Davis came off the bench to contribute 15.

Only three Bucks scored in double figures After Giannis 23, Danien Lillard and Bobby Portis scored 20 points each. Brook Lopez managed just 9 points.

On the other hand, Cleveland was expected to be high after beating the red hot Celtics but they started flat and immediately trailed the Hawks with the first half ending 64-49 in Aflanta's favor. The Cavs rallied in the third to even take the lead 89-87. But the Hawks staged a powerful wind up 25-12 to win comfortably.

Without Trae Young, the Hawks relied on Dejounte Murray (16), Bogdan Bogdanovic (18) and DAndre Hunter (16) as well as Sidiq Bey (23) who all delivered in double figures Center Clint Capella ably protected the rim and rebounded the ball against the Cavs.

Dean Wade, the hero of the Celtics game started for the Cavs but could only score 9 points in feeble support of Jarett Allen (18), Isaac Okoro (17) and Darius Garland (15). Three other Cavs were in double figures namely Geirge Niang, Caris Leverr and C. Porter who all chipped in 13 points each.

The wins by both the Warriors and Hawks hardly improved their placing in the West and East respectively but made their bid for inclusion in the play in tournament for the 8th seeding in the playoffs a stronger possibility with barely 20 games left in the regular season.

The loses by the Bucks and the Cavs also did not affect their current standings as 2nd and 3rd respectively in the East. However they are just a few games ahead of the next teams.

Only the Celtics are assured of the playoff berth in the East.
