LAL Beats Boston Sans James, AD; Knicks, Cavaliers Continue Winning

PhilBoxing.com

It was supposed to be another W for the Boston Celtics as all odds were stacked in their favor.

The Celts had more than a complete lineup with Kristaps Porzingis and Al Horford both on duty. They were playing at home at the TD Garden Arena where they are 22-2 so far in the season. Their opponents the Los Angeles Lakers were without their two main men - Lebron James and Anthony Davis.

But they lost 114-105 as the Celts had one of their poorest outside shooting particularly from the 3-point area and Austin Reeves scored one of his season highest of 32 points in leading a balanced Lakers offensive. In the final analysis though, the Lakers beat the Celtics in the foul line, hitting 19 of 26 (73%) to the Celtics 7 of 7 (100%).

Supporting Austin were D'Angelo Russell (16), reserve center Jaxson Hayes (16), Jarred Vandervilt (11), Taurean Prince (10) and Riu Hachimura (15). Max Christie added 9 points for the Lakers.

Boston was led as usual by Tatum but "only" 23 points supported by Porzingis 17 points and Sam Hauser also 17. No other Celtics posted double figures with Jaylen Brown scoring 8 with 8 boards and Al Horford also 8 points and team high 9 rebounds.

The loss though has no implications on the current standing in the Eastern Conference where Boston is still firmly at first, 4.5 won games ahead of the idle Milwaukee Bucks.

It didn't change anything in the placing down the line as New York and Cleveland both won keeping the 3rd and 4th places despite Philadelphia also winning early today beating the Utah Jazz on the road 127-124 despite continuously missing ace center Joel Embiid with Tyrese Maxey banging 50 points.

The Knicks, despite missing stars Julius Randle and OG Anunoby won at home over the Indiana Pacers 109-105. Jalen Brunson scored a night high 40 points aided by Donte DiVizenzio's 20 and Miles McBride's 16 for the Knicks. Center Isiah Hartenstein and power forward Precious Achiuwa combined for 35 rebounds for New York which remained at third in the East.

The Cavs also won on the road defeating the Memphis Grizzlies 108-101 to keep 4th place.
