NY, Cleveland Overake Philadelphia in the East; T-Wolves Keep Lead in West with Win Over Mavs

In a sudden turn of events, the New York Knicks and the Cleveland Cavaliers have overtaken the Philadelphia 76ers in the race for the third position in the Eastern Conference of the 2023-24 NBA season.

Riding high on a respective winning streak, stretching to nine games, the Knicks and the Cavs now tote records of 31-17 and 29-16 accordingly for the 3rd and 4th place displacing Philadelphia which is currently at 5th with 29-17. Safely ensconced on top is the Boston Celtics at 36-11 followed by the Milwaukee Bucks at 32-16 which is just a won game ahead of the sizzling Knicks.

Meanwhile, the Minnesota Timberwolves keep top position in the West with an easy 121-87 home win over the Luka Doncic-less Dallas Mavericks which are continuing to struggle. The T-Wolves are at 34-14 one won game ahead of the OKC Thunder (33-15) which won against the Nikola Jokic-less Denver Nuggets (33-16). As a result the idle LA Clippers (31-15) again moved to 3rd dropping the defending champions to 4th.

In the games early today-

The Cavs won at home over the Detroit Pistons 128-121 with Donovan Mitchell dropping 45 points and the returning Darius Garland scoring 19 points Big men Jarrett Allen and Isaac Okoro contributed 14 points each with Allen pulling down 11 boards. Danilo Gallinari led Piston scoring with 21 followed by C Cunningham with 19 and Bogdan Bogdanovic with 17.

T-Wolves overwhelmed Dallas with twin towers Karl Anthony Towns and Rudy Gobert dominating the slot with 29 and 17 points plus 15 rebounds between them. Josh Green led the Mavs with 21 points.

OKC Thunder surprisingly encountered problem at home in disposing off the Jokic-less Nuggets 105-100 as Aaron Gordon led a balanced Nugget attack. Shai Gilgeous Alexander as usual led the Thunder with 34 points and center Chet Holmgren frolicked with 18 points and 13 rebounds.
