TAGUIG City -- Senator Christopher Lawrence "Bong" Go won the Godfather of the Year in the 3rd Siklab Youth Sports Awards held last December 4 at the Market! Market! at the Activity Center, Ayala Mall, BGC.
The 49-year-old Go received his prize together with the other Sports Idol awards, Go Young's Heroes awards, Blue Hydra Rising Stars awards, Burlington Super Kids awards and Para Youth Stars awards.
"I'm only 49 and many are older than me, but I'm still grateful of this award," said Go.
Go has been always a supporter of sports not because he is the Committee Chairman of Sports in the Senate.
"But I was always a fan of the PBA when I was still a student here," said Go.
Go said that the youth must get into sports to avoid them into drugs.
"Serbisyo sa tao ay serbisyo sa Diyos", said Go.
Go said that he co-authored the passing of the Philippine National Games and the National Academy of Sports in Clark.
A total of 58 young athletes from 33 sports took the spotlight in SYSA led by tennis star Alex Eala.
Also awarded are World Combat Games champion Alyssa Kylie Mallari of muay thai, weightlifting world youth champion Prince Keil Delos Santos, gymnast Karl Eldrew Yulo — an Asian championship junior silver medalist — and Southeast Asian Games gold medalists Kira Ellis and Matthew Hermosa, along with 18 others.
SYSA started in 2018 before it was stopped due to pandemic.
SYSA was again organized this year by the Philippine Sports Commission-Philippine Olympic Committee Media Group headed by its president June Navarro of Inquirer.
Vice-president Randy Caluag of Manila Standard gave the closing remarks while the emcees were Gerry Ramos of Spin, Abac Cordero of PhilStar and Pauline Versoza of CNN Philippines.
