Team Philippines’ Remarkable Performance Highlights Makassar Open 2023 Softball Preliminaries
By Marlon Bernardino PhilBoxing.com Thu, 21 Sep 2023
The Makassar Open 2023 Softball Preliminaries, being held in Makassar, Indonesia until September 24, 2023, showcased an array of talents, but it was the Philippines that particularly stood out. Demonstrating remarkable skill and teamwork, the Philippine team emerged as a formidable contender, winning four consecutive matches.
The Philippine team came out strong, after recovering from their initial match against Japan where they faced a 1-7 defeat. In their match against Varsyti, the Philippines displayed an offensive masterclass, routing the opposition with a lopsided score of 13-0. The onslaught continued as they faced Stingers, where they secured a decisive 7-0 victory. The winning streak was further extended against Lakidende, with an 8-0 scoreline, and against Miramar, where they posted a 6-0 win.
"These victories underscore our team's capabilities and commitment to excellence," said Jean Henri Lhuillier, President of the Amateur Softball Association of the Philippines (ASAPHIL). "The Makassar Open is an important avenue for us to demonstrate our preparedness for global competition, and our performance so far has been a strong testament to our potential”.
The team's comprehensive performances have made them one of the teams to watch as the tournament progresses, and their lone loss to Japan has done little to dampen their status as strong contenders. The Makassar Open serves as an essential platform for teams to hone their skills, test their mettle and gauge their readiness for future international competitions, and the Philippine team has undoubtedly sent a clear message to their rivals.
After the current tournament, The Cebuana Lhuillier-backed team will be heading towards the 2023 Asian Games to be held in Shaoxing, China from September 26 – October 2, 2023.-Marlon Bernardino-
