Ramón “Dinamita” Cárdenas (22-1, 11 KOs) faces undefeated Panamanian star prospect Rafael Pedroza for the WBA Continental-Latin American title in the main event of a SHOBOX: The New Generation broadcast on Friday, September 15 from the Boeing Center at Tech Point in San Antonio, Texas. Previously ranked No. 5 by the WBA, Cárdenas has won his last 10 fights dating back to 2017 while “El General” Pedroza is undefeated since beginning his professional career in April 2017.
Pedroza, 26, is a main part of that great project “Sowing Champions” of the public-private mega alliance between the Uruguayan promoter Sampson Lewkowicz and President Laurentino Cortizo of Panama.
Pedroza is the favorite in the fight due to his boxing style, height and reach, and he also arrives as the great hope for the 31st world championship for Panama.
For BoxRec numbers, the Panamanian Pedroza is number 9 in the world with four and a half stars while Cardenas is number 38 with two and a half stars in a category that currently has 1,062 active boxers worldwide.
Pedroza (15-0, 11 KOS) is number 7 in the WBA at 122 pounds and it is his first professional fight abroad since he had a good career in amateur boxing with a record of 92-14 that included the silver medal in the 2015 Pan American National Tournament and reached the final of the Olympic qualifiers for RIO 2016, losing to the Cuban current WBO featherweight champion, Robeisy Ramírez.
