PBPMA to push for Philippine Boxing Commission

THE officers and members of the Philippine Boxing Promoters and Managers Association (PBPMA) have unanimously agreed to “create the Philippine Boxing Committee (PBC) thereby strengthening the country’s standing in boxing sports and providing funds therefor.”

The PBPMA also agreed and signed a manifesto of support on S.B. No. 191 sponsored by 8-division world champion Sen. Manny Pacquiao, an act creating the PBC.

“We strongly believe that this proposed Bill will provide and implement the welfare, incentives and benefits to all, particularly the Pro Boxers, who have brought honor and prestige to our country,” the manifesto.

“Through this bill, Pro Boxers are assured of the much needed incentives and benefits, such as; Insurance, Health care, Livelihood program, Death and Retirements.”

“This is the fulfillment of our long time dreams, to seek and establish a separate Boxing Commission which will handle only Pro Boxing in our country,“ they said.

Among those who signed were president Dante Almario, chairman Lope Sarreal Jr., Sammy Gello-ani, Joseph Quibral, Artemeo Monis, Gerry Penalosa, Gabriel “Bebot” Elorde Jr., Johnny Elorde, Liza Elorde, Gerardo Garcia, Archier Villamor, Bejie Villamor, Narciso Labandia Jr., Orlando Borlelango, Jimmy Vallares Jr. and Yolanda “Ate Yolly” Alfante.

"My number 1 concern is that we need immediate assistance to boxers, who are injured in the fight and boxers must be covered by SSS, Philhealth or Pag- ibig,” said Almario.
