Pinay NM Racasa rebounds in Indonesia chess

TANGERANG, Indonesia---Filipino Woman National Master Antonella Berthe "Tonelle" Racasa beat Indonesian Davin Belmiro Azfar to post his third win in four outings Saturday and bounced back in contention in the BKD Fide Rated International Open Chess Tournament Under 21 at the Gunadarma University Karawaci in Tangerang-Indonesia here.

The 15-year-old Racasa, a student of Victory Christian International School, showed his vast knowledge of the opening and his superb endgame technique to ground the Indon opponent after 41 moves of an English Opening using the white pieces.
With the win, Racasa climbed into a share of 11th to 44th places in this nine-round FIDE rated standard tournament.

The Mandaluyong City bet Racasa, earlier lost to Nathanael Dieudonne B Simanihuruk of Indonesia in Friday's third round.

“With still five rounds left, it’s still anybody’s race,” said WNM Racasa whose stint here is being supported by ALC Group of Companies Chairman and CEO D. Edgard A. Cabangon, Philippine Racing Commission (PHILRACOM) chairman Aurelio "Reli" de Leon and Sir Raffy Garcia of Pasig Rotary Club.

However, National Master Ivan Travis Cu of San Juan City was beaten by Fide Master Kemas Ade Krisna Mausyach Suri of Indonesia so did Jeanne Marie Arcinue of Cavite who yielded to Hansmuda Zaeik Nun of Indonesia.

The 14-year-old Cu, a Grade 8 student of Xavier School remains at 3.0 points while Arcinue stuck at 2.0 points.

FM Mausyach Suri, meantime shared the lead with perfect 4.0 points along with Kenny Horasino Bach, Steven Tan, Stevanky, Al Mubarok Jalaludin and Achmad Labib Najibi of Indonesia.

In the chase pack just half a point behind with 3.5 points apiece were four players headed by Andreas Tio Parulian Tampubolon, Kristopher Reynard, Aditya Dicky and Putu Luhur Apngal Kusuma of Indonesia.

The event is organized BKD Chess Club will be conducted under the auspices of Indonesian Chess Federation.

Tournament director was FM Muhammad Novian Siregar and assisted by chief arbiter IA Bong Bunawan.-Marlon Bernardino-
