NM Ivan Travis Cu to play in Asian Youth Chess Championships

MANILA---National Master Ivan Travis Cu will head to Bali, Indonesia with hopes of improving his world ranking aside from bringing more honors for the country.
NM Cu will see action at the Under 14 Open division of the Asian Youth Chess Championships 2022 slated from October 13 to 22 at the Grand Inna Kuta Hotel in Bali, Indonesia.
NM Cu, a Grade 8th student of Xavier School, is 16th seed in the Under 14 open.
The time control of the Standard format is 90 minutes + 30 seconds. The Rapid event is 15 minutes + 10 seconds while the Blitz side is 3 minutes + 2 seconds.
The top 3 players in each event will be awarded gold, silver and bronze medals. Furthermore, champions obtain a personal right to participate in the World Youth Championship.
Direct Titles - Champions in the standard format of the U14 category shall be awarded the title of FM/WFM. Silver and Bronze medalists shall be awarded CM/WCM title.
The Asian Youth Chess Championships is expected to be highly competitive, with participants coming from all Asian national Federations including chess powerhouses India, Mongolia, and Vietnam. The Philippine delegation, comprised of 9 players, is backed by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines.
This is the second over the board international tournament for NM Cu. It can be recalled that NM Cu competed in the 2019 Singapore National Age Group and won 1st runner up in the U10 category, where he was backed up by the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR).-Marlon Bernardino-
