Luis Quiñones Health Update from Colombia
By Gabriel F. Cordero PhilBoxing.com Tue, 27 Sep 2022
25-year-old boxer Luis Quiñones has been struggling between life and death at the Clínica General del Norte, in Barranquilla, Colombia since last Saturday after being induced into a coma after being struck down in his fight against Jose Muñoz in the last round of a fight agreed for 8 rounds after failing to get up in a fight for the Colombian super lightweight title at the mythical Elias Chegwin Coliseum in Barranquilla.
The first medical report reported that there is "neurological deterioration as a result of cranioencephalic trauma due to traumatic cranial contusions secondary to his professional boxing activity."
This Monday it has been announced that Quiñones has orotracheal intubation and invasive mechanical ventilation for his airway and neurological protection.
According to the latest press release from the General del Norte clinic, the prognosis is very reserved and his relatives have been informed.
Quiñones was undefeated in 10 fights with 6 wins by knockout since his debut in April 2018 while his rival Jose Muñoz was also undefeated in 8 fights with 6 knockouts since his debut in February 2021.
According to the statements of his coach, the doctor on duty did not do the right thing since he asked to be evaluated and only told him to take a moisturizer and that he would get better, but he pressed quickly to be taken quickly to a clinic, in this case the General del Norte, who is one block from the Elías Chegwin to later be diagnosed with a clot in the brain to see his reactions in the next few hours, which will be key to his recovery, although Quiñones underwent surgery and is in critical condition and the forecasts until now are disappointing.
