WIM Mariano finishes second in Women's Blitz Chess Championship in Stockholm, Sweden

MANILA---Woman International Master Cristine Rose Mariano-Wagman bagged the runner-up honor in the Women's Blitz Chess Championship held at the Elite Hotel Palace in Stockholm, Sweden over the weekend.
The 5-time National Open Champion Mariano earned 7.0 points on six wins, two draws and a loss.
Grandmaster Pia Cramling pocketed the crown with 8.5 points on eight wins and one draw while Woman Fide Master Anna Cramling settled for third with 6.5 points on six wins, one draw and two loses.
Mariano, the pride of Academic Chess Society Umeå chess club had a chance to win the title but she offered a draw in Round 4 with eventual champion Cramling whom the latter's accepted.
"With my great respect to my idol GM Pia Cramling that's why i offer a draw," Mariano said in a vernacular.
Mariano yielded to WFM Anna Cramling in Round 5 but bounced back after halving the point with Ofelia Thornqvist in Round 6.
Then Mariano won the next three remaining rounds to settled second places.
Ofelia Thornqvist and Woman International Master Viktoria Johansson shared fourth to fifth places with 6.0 points apiece while Julia Ostensson and Cajsa Lindberg was tied at sixth to seventh places with 5.0 points each.
Completing the top 10 finishers were eight Woman International Master Irina Tetenkina (4.5 points), ninth Lavinia Valcu (4.0 points) and tenth Linn Olsson (4.0 points).
Last week, the former Philippine Airforce chess team top player Mariano placed eleventh in the Stockholm Open lightning 2022 Chess Championships at the Stockholms Schack Salongen in Stockholm, Sweden.
The Umeå, Sweden based WIM Mariano, a Culinary student at Astar School finished 15th in the Stockholm Open Standard chess championships.-Marlon Bernardino-
