FM Alekhine to grace GM Balinas chess By Marlon Bernardino PhilBoxing.com Mon, 15 Aug 2022 MANILA, Philippines - Fide Master Alekhine "BBking" Fabiosa Nouri has been invited to be the guest of honor in the Grandmaster Rosendo Carreon Balinas Jr. 81st Birthday Chess Cup 14 years old kiddies rapid tournament slated on September 10, Saturday, 9 a.m. at the second floor Open Kitchen Foodhall, Rockwell Business Center, Sheridan Street, Mandaluyong City. FM Alekhine’s presence is expected to inspire the participants in the seven-round Swiss system rapid tournament organized by Bayanihan Chess Club headed by it's co-founding chairman Dr. Jose "Joe" Carreon Balinas and Engr. Antonio "Tony" Carreon Balinas in cooperation with Ms. China Aurelio and Ms. Mimi Casas of Open Kitchen and sanctioned by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP). It is also supported by GM Balinas family and will be supervised by Philippine Arbiters Chess Confederation (PACC). The 16-year-old Nouri, who was named after Russian-French world champion Alexander Alekhine, won the Grandmaster Attorney Rosendo Carreon Balinas Jr. online bullet chess online tournament held via Lichess.org in 2021 and the Governor Daniel R. Fernando 2nd Inter-Town Over The Board individual chess tournament held last February 19 and 20, 2022 at Provincial Capitol Gymnasium in Malolos City, Bulacan. Fondly called "BBking", who became the youngest Fide Master in the world at the age of seven back in 2013, also will be making his first appearance in the World Juniors Under 20 Chess Championships slated from October 11-23, this year in Sardinia, Italy and the 33ste Open van Leuven to be held on November 10-13 in Leuven, Belgium. He will be accompanied by his guardian/coach sportswriter and radio commentator Almario Marlon Quiroz Bernardino Jr., who is also a certified Filipino and United States chess master. Interestingly, GM Balinas and FM Nouri, are both from Iloilo and Negros. FM Nouri is currently based in Quezon City and City of San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan. Last week, National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) chairman/president Rep. Prospero “Butch” Arreza Pichay Jr. has thrown his full support behind the Grandmaster Rosendo Carreon Balinas Jr. 81st Birthday Chess Cup 14 years old kiddies rapid tournament. GM Balinas was a chess grandmaster from the Philippines. FIDE awarded him the International Master title in 1975 and the International Grandmaster title in 1976 after winning the tough and prestigious Odessa International. He was Philippines' second chess grandmaster.
