IM Young tops Bicol Online Grand Prix Grandfinals Chess Championship

MANILA----International Master Angelo Abundo Young defeated Fide Master Jose Efren Bagamasbad in the final round to snare the Bicol Online Grand Prix Grandfinal Chess Championship held virtually at Lichess Platform on Friday, July 1, 2022.
The Tondo, Manila resident Young, an 8-time Illinois USA Champion, beat Bagamasbad after 37 moves of Double Fianchetto Opening.
"Winning the Bicol Online Grand Prix Grandfinal Chess Championship made my online chess truly meaningful," Young said.
Young finished with 14.5 points in 17 rounds of blitz chess (four minutes with one minute increment) to pocket the P5,000 top purse
Jesurie Calabia and Sohaile Amatonding Jr., both scored 12.5 points to share second and third places.
Rounding up to the top ten (10) were NM Ronald Llavanes (fourth) Carl Daluz (fifth), Joeven Polsotin (sixth), Leo Mirana (seventh), Emir Gamis (eight), Roncar Raffy Tivar (ninth) and Dr. Jenny Mayor (tenth).-Marlon Bernardino-
