Suelo, one of the top players of Danilo Ponay's Quezon City Simba's Tribe ended up with 6.0 points on account of five wins and two draws in seven outings, good enough for the chess title in the 20 minutes time control event organized by International Organizer/ International Arbiter Ignatius Leong. "First of all I would like to thank God," Suelo said, an active member of the International Churches of Christ (ICOC). “I’m so happy to have been part of such an incredible event,” added Suelo, who is best remembered to help the Rizal Technological University (RTU) Mandaluyong woodpushers won the national championships title during the national inter-collegiate in the mid 90's. The 1996 Philippine Junior Champion Suelo scored victories over Goh Ching Hayk of Singapore in the first round, Qin Yixuan of China in the third round, Lim Fan Yhi of Malaysia in the fourth round, Dhanesh Venkata Narayanaswamy of Singapore in the sixth round and Richard Lean of Singapore in the seventh and final round. He split the point with compatriots National Master Jose Aquino Jr. in the second round and Fide Master David Elorta in the fifth round. Aquino placed second overall with 5.5 points on five wins, one draw and a loss.
