Cantonjos claims Co Chess Crown

MANILA, Philippines ---Allan Cantonjos won the Mayor Samuel "Sammy" S. Co Pasalamat Festival 2022 Individual Rapid Chess Championship (Over the Board) after beating Julius Dan Augustine Ablin during the final round at the C3 Mall food court in Pagadian City on Thursday.

The Gingoog City native Cantonjos finished with 6 wins and 1 draw for a total of 6.5 points, the same output of National Master Dale Bernardo.

The pride of Philippine Airforce Chess Team, Cantonjos, however, was proclaimed champion due to better tie break points.
Cantonjos receive P15,000 for his effort while Bernardo from Angeles City, Pampanga pocketed P10,000.

Reynaldo Aba-a of Davao City placed third with 6 points to bring home P6,000.

Bernardo defeated Jones Maghuyop while Aba-a trounced Roumundo Jaime Alexis Edades Jr. in the last round.

At 4th to 10th place with 5 points were Maghuyop, Nepthali Tejada, Ablin, Perfecto Laput, National Master Levi Martuna, Rocham Lauranilla and Alejo Bation.

Youngest participant Seven Years Old Leslybeth Palangan from Buug, Sibugay Province won the top kiddy award.

The 2-day (January 12 and 13, 2022) event is sponsored by the City Government of Pagadian thru Mayor Samuel "Sammy" S. Co, organized by the PagZamSur Professional Chess Players Association and the Brotherhood of Knights of the Squaretable, Inc.
Tournament Director is Mr. Jezreel Lopez while Chief Arbiter is Mr. Glenn Aleria.-Marlon Bernardino-
