IIEE Southern Luzon Region (SLR) bags 20th ECVRC Chess Tournament PhilBoxing.com Fri, 17 Sep 2021 MANILA, Philippines---With 10 Regional chess teams competing for the special team battle hosted by IIEE Cebu during its 20th Eastern Central Visayas Regional Conference, the IIEE SLR bested the rest with its 67 points followed by the host region IIEE Eastern Central Visayas with 58 points led by Wenefredo Carcueva III with 15 points virtually held last Thursday, September 16, 2021 at Lichess.org Platform. The Metro Manila Region edged out IIEE Northern Mindanao by a point for 3rd place who was led by Apollo Zantua. The top scorers for SLR were Jeremiah Nolasco with 17 points together with Chester Concordia, Romel Gesmundo, Marco Joseph, Vincent Palmiery and Alexander Guingab. Enrique Nagallo Jr. is overall individual high scorer with 18 points. There were 75 IIEE chess players who joined the 2-hr tournament. The 20th ECVCR was organized by Gov. Felipe Nillama, Cebu Chapter President Mario Tabańag, Brian Pasilan, Ed Quirante, among others. These were prelude games for the 2-month National Olympiad from September 17 to November 19, 2021. IIEE National support for the tournament coverage were provided by IIEE National President Allan Alvarez, IIEE National VP Technical Affair Feliciano Padua III and National Chairman Joseph Solicar of TCPDC. N1 IIEE National Chess Olympiad is an official sport under the Annual National Convention headed by Bureau Director and IIEE National VP Internal affair Lyndon Bague and Sports Coordinator Datu Amil Asakil. The Olympiad will be guided by consultant FIDE National Arbiter Richard R. Dela Cruz, tournament director and former IIEE Bulacan chapter president Norberto De Jesus, 2021 IIEE National President Allan Anthony P. Alvarez and Normel Benigno de Jesus, former member of UST chess team, Gintong Kabataan ng Bulacan Awardee, presently Liason officer of Bulacan Republicans Basketball team in National Basketball League.-Marlon Bernardino- ![]() |
