Reyes, Claros and Hernandez banner PH chess FIDE Online Rapid World Cup Cadets & Youth team

MANILA, Philippines---Oshrie Jhames “OJ” Constantino Reyes, April Joy Claros and Lexie Grace Hernandez will spearhead the Philippine team seeing action in the FIDE Online Rapid World Cup Cadets & Youth 2021 slated August 1 to 31, 2021.
The triumvirate Pampanga’s Young Chess masters (OJ - under 10, April Joy - under 14, Lexie Grace - under 16) are expected to display their skills and talents in this 10 minutes with three seconds of increment per player time control format.
The 10-year-old Reyes, incoming grade 5 student of EZEE, Guagua, Pampanga earned the title of youngest National Master (NM) after winning the 2021 National Age Group Hybrid Chess Championships Grandfinals Under-10 division held online via the Tornelo platform from June 26 to June 29, 2021.
"I hope to do well in this prestigious FIDE online event," said Reyes, playing under the watch of coaches Dale Bernardo and Eric Labog Jr. whose stint is being supported by Governor Dennis “Delta” Pineda, Vice-Governor Lilia "Nanay" Pineda and the National Chess Federation of the Philippines.
The 14-year-old Claros, incoming Grade 9 student of FEU, the best Filipino finisher who made the quarterfinals of the World Youth and Cadet Championship last year, finished undefeated with seven wins two draws in the super strong Kasparov Chess Foundation University Cup last February.
The 15-year-old Hernandez, incoming Grade 10 student of Holy Angel University (HAU) in Angeles City, Pampanga, on the other hand, became the country's newest Woman National Master (WNM) after winning the 2021 National Age Group Hybrid Chess Championships Grandfinals Under-16 division held online via the Tornelo platform from June 22 to 25, 2021.-Marlon Bernardino-
