Former Marcial Amateur Foe/Victim Wins 3rd Pro Fight in Dubai by KO1

PhilBoxing.com

Kulakhment registers third pro victory in Dubai last Saturday.
Tursynbay Kulakhmet of Kazakhstan knocked out erstwhile undefeated Venezuelan Heber Rondon in the very first round of their scheduled 12 round bout at the Caesar's Palace Dubai to successfully retain his WBC international super welterweight title and post his third straight win in as many fights as professional fighter.

Kulakhmet fought in one of the supporting bouts underneath the main event fight between defending champion Jamel Herring of the US and UK challenger Carl Frampton. Herring successfully defended his WBO world super featherweight championship by sixth round technical knockout of the former two division titlist Frampton who announced his retirement from boxing afterwards.

Also victor of the night was the comebacking Filipino former multi division world champion Donnie Nietes who won the vacant WBO international super flyaweight title by unanimous 10 round decision over world rated Colombian Pablo Carillo immediately before the Herring-Frampton fight. It was Nietes's first fight in more than two years during which time he inexplicably vacated his WBO world super flyweight title.

Kulakhmet fought last as amateur in late 2019 losing by 5-0 decision to Eumir Felix Marcial in that year's World Boxing Championship semi finals in the middleweight class in Ekaterinburg, Russia and settling for a bronze medal finish. Marcial fought the host's Gleb Bakshi for the gold medal and dropped a decision after suffering a flash knockdown.

While waiting for the European Olympic qualifier tournament, Kulakhmet decided to turn pro as a super welterweight and won his debut by stopping fellow Kazakh Sagadat Ramankhul in August 2020. He followed it up by outpointing Briton MacAulay McGowan for the then vacant WBC international super welterweight title in Yorkshire, UK in November 2020.

Before meeting Marcial in his last amateur bout, Kulakhmet was on a 16 fight winning skein dating back to February 2019 including a majority decision win over Uzbekistan's Israil Madrimov, another Marcial noted amateur foe and now also a promising pro at welterweight.

Prior to Marcial, Kulakhmet last lost to fellow Kazakh Abilkhan Amankul in late 2018. Amankhul is going to the reset 2020 Tokyo Olympics with Marcial who beat him on the way to topping the Asia Oceania Olympic qualifier in Jordan.

Some of Marcial's noted foes in the amateurs as Kulakhmet and Madrimov have turned to the pros but either as welterweights or super welterweights.

Marcial himself has turned pro but as middleweight, debuting with a points win over a certain Andrew Whitfield last December.
