GM Darwin Laylo loses to a Tricycle Driver as heavy favorite Pasig Chess Team yields to Cagayan By Marlon Bernardino PhilBoxing.com Sun, 17 Jan 2021 Unheralded Jake Tasi Tumaliuan, a 31 years old tricycle driver from Tuguegarao City is the new chess sensation as he spearheaded his team Cagayan Kings into a cliff hanging 11-10 victory over heavy favorites Pasig Kings Pirates at the start of 2021 Professional Chess Association of the Philippines (PCAP) Chess League online tournament on Saturday, January 16, 2021 at the lichess platform. Tumaliuan upset Grandmaster Darwin Laylo in their rapid play match. "Panalo na ako sa game natalo pa. Tsi-checkmate ko na sana eh bumagsak oras ko. Tumaliuan's teammates, Emerson Aquio, Robert Mania and Jefferson Villarde, beat their their respective matches from boards five to seven to underscore the Kings Pirates’ strong showing in the blitz event. Aquio upset Italy based National Master Exfelicos Bolico on board 5, Mania toppled Cromwell Sabado on board 6 while Tugade crushed Carl Espallardo on board 7. Little-Known Krizza Mae Failoga Biggayan halved the point with veteran World Chess Olympiad member Woman Fide Master Sherilly Cua on board 3. Pasig Kings Pirates twin win courtesy of Italy based Grandmaster Roland Salvador and National Master Rudy Ibanez on board 2 and board 4 by beating Jojo Foz and Lamberto Arugay respectively. Cagayan Kings Head Coach John Robert Bumatay had something to say to his team. Earlier, Cagayan Kings bow to Pasig Kings Pirates, 2-5, in their blitz encounter. The format of the tournament is 1 point is equivalent of a win in blitz while 2 points is equivalent of a win in the rapid play.
