NERY BEATS ALAMEDA TO CAPTURE WBC SUPERBANTAM TITLE
By Dong Secuya PhilBoxing.com Sun, 27 Sep 2020

In a battle of undefeated fighters, popular Tijuana slugger Luis 'Pantera' Nery annexed the WBC superbantam title to his resume when he won by unanimous decision over Aaron Alameda at the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, CT Saturday night (Sunday in Manila) on Showtime Pay-Per-View.
Judge Don Ackerman had it 118-110, Tom Carusone, 116-112 and Julie Lederman, 115-113 all in favor of the Tijuana fighter.
Nery, the former WBC bantamweight champion, was the agressor throughout the fight and threw volume of punches as Alameda, from Nograles, Mexico, was reduced to ride on his bicycle and tried to score with counterpunches.
“I got the victory because I landed more," Nery said after the fight. "You always look for the knockout, but he used the jab a lot and that threw me off a little bit until I was able to connect more at the end of the fight.
“There are a lot of good fighters in this division. Brandon Figueroa’s name has come up, but we’ll check with the team and go from there. We’re ready to fight anyone at 122-pounds. We don’t fear anybody.”
Nery captured the WBC bantamweight title by knocking out Shinsuke Yamanaka in Kyota, Japan on on Aug. 15, 2017 but lost the title at the scales during a rematch with Yamanaka on March 1, 2018 in Kokugikan, Japan although he still beat Yamanaka by second round knockout.
Nery, 25, now sports a 31-0-0 record with 24 knockouts while Alameda, 27, suffered his first defeat and dropped to 25-1-0, 13KOs.
