NM Francis Jocson wins PGCCR online chess tourney

NATIONAL MASTER (NM) Francis Jocson ruled via tiebreak the Panay-Guimaras Cyber Chess Realm (PGCCR) Online blitz chess tournament on Friday, July 3, 2020 at the lichess.org.
The 46 years old Jocson, a Senior Project Planning and Development Officer at Metro Roxas Water District, tallied 12 points on account of 11 wins, 2 draws and 2 loses in 15 outings, the same output of National Master (NM) Cesar Mariano.
Jocson took the title with a better 96.75 tie break points against Mariano's 85.25 in the event organized by Capiznon Chess Club Inc.
It shall be recalled that Jocson is the first National Master (NM) from Tiza, Roxas City after he made magnificent performance by beating five marquee national masters in the 1999 Inter-Province Chess Tournament in Cagayan de Oro City.
Jocson also ruled the 7th DWP Mixed Masters Invitational Rapid Chess Tournament in 2012 held at the Bayview Residence Hotel, Iloilo City. Jocson also made it to the Grandfinals of the Philippine Executive Chess Association (PECA) meet.
Other famous chess player from Tiza, Roxas City is Sydney, Australia based Frederick Tumanon who won the Philippine Junior Championships in the 70's.
Meantime, Felixberto Baguyo Jr., a Management Information System Design Specialist at Metro Roxas Water District occupied the third spot with 10.5 points followed by Michael Joseph Cartojano and Fiona Geeweneth Guirhem placed fourth and fifth, respectively with identical 9.5 points apiece.
Rounding up to the top 10 were sixth place John Kenneth Bayot (9 points), seventh place John Calvin De Mesa (8.5 points), eight place Singapore based Clyde Seruelo (8 points), ninth place Dubai based Arena Grandmaster (AGM) John Michael Silvederio (8 points) and tenth place Oriental Press Bahrain Internal Audit Manager Kriz "Dodoy" Villareal (8 points).-Marlon Bernardino-
