2020 has been a challenging year so far and with the Covid-19 outbreak disrupting sporting events across the globe, the future of live events is looking bleak. However, with the Olympics now taking place next year, could this be the year for the Philippine boxing team to work towards a podium finish in the main event. Here, we will be looking into their most recent successes and the effect that this can have on the sport.

Major Successes In The Olympics

Though the Olympics has not been postponed until 2022 it is the success of the Philippine boxing squad that saw one of there major team members qualify with a podium finish. After fighting well in all his rounds Eumir Felix Marcial finished top of his weight class. This was the moment for boxing in this country and has shown the level of growth that this team have experienced since the last Olympic games.

The Young Rising Star

Eumir Felix Marcial has by far been one of the most popular stars to come out of Philippine boxing in the last few months. With multiple years of training under his belt, the 24-year-old rising star has a vast amount of untapped potential to offer. As he continues to train for the Olympic games that are now taking place in 2021, he stands in good stead to potentially win a medal for his country in the weight class. But with this ongoing postponement and isolation for a quarter of the world’s population, will this affect his momentum as the games draw closer?

As the members of the squad continue to train, there is a buzz in the Philippines surrounding the sport and boxing live events as a whole. This is an effect that we have seen all over the globe as sports such as cycling and riding begin to take off. This not only helps to bring light to the sport in this country but it also begins to train up new talent within the sport. This is a promising time for this nation as several hopefuls are looking to replicate the success of Eumir Felix Marcial and others just like him.

The Successes At The 2021 Olympic Games

If the qualifying rounds are anything to go by, the Philippine boxing squad are looking promising. With a medal within the reach of the 24-year old and his abilities, the hopes of a nation are riding on his shoulders. However, as he continues to train and better his craft, we are sure that he will be more than capable of taking the country to new heights, not only in terms of recognition but also the shot at gaining a podium finish. However, only time will tell just how successful he will be in his efforts.
