Sakkreerin stops blooded Bantilan in 3rd; retains IBF Pan Pacific title
By Alex P. Vidal PhilBoxing.com Sat, 16 Feb 2008
?He could not see the punches coming as his two eyes were covered by blood.?
Thus was the frantic excuse made by boxing manger Chad Colocado after his ward, Van ?Holyfield? Bantilan, was brutally crushed by champion Fahsai Sakkreerin in the third round of a 12-round battle for the International Boxing Federation (IBF) Pan Pacific featherweight championship at the Holland restaurant in Bangkok, Thailand Friday (Feb. 15) afternoon.
?Gina headbutt sia ni Fahsai but wala deduction sa referee kag wala man gin untat; ila abi lugar mo. Mga two minutes indi ka kita si Van kay ga dugo duha ya ka mata, amo to na knockout sia (Van was blooded in both eyes because of a head butt but the referee neither deducted nor stopped the fight that?s why Van was counted out),? sobbed Colocado in an exclusive interview overseas.
It was the second straight KO defeat for the 28-year-old native of Ilog, Kabankalan, Negros Occidental who was also halted in the second round by Simson Butar Butar for International Boxing Organization (IBO) Asia Pacific super featherweight championship in Semarang, Indonesia last December 1, 2007.
Bantilan?s business manager Rex ?Wakee? Salud had earlier expressed apprehensions of the boxer?s chances in Thailand saying he was trying to book the Cebu-based fighter for a more lucrative assignment in South Africa in March which will now be cancelled following Bantilan?s shocking stoppage loss.
Sakkreerin (24 wins, 1 loss), is handled by promoter Jimmy Chaichotchung who described his boxer as ?world class and ready to meet the best featherweights in the world in 2008.?
The fight was televised ?live? on channel 7 all over Thailand.
