Montano to defend ABF belt vs. Suganob tonight

PhilBoxing.com

Bacolod City-hailed Joepher Montano (10-5-2, 9KOs) will be defending his Asian Boxing Federation (ABF) Super Lightweight belt tonight against Benjie Suganob (10-7-1. 5KOs) of Angono, Rizal at the Gaisano City Grand Mallin Bacolod City.

Montano is coming off a split decision loss to John Ruba for the vacant World Boxing Council Asian Boxing Council Continental Welterweight title last August 7, 2019, at Flobamora Sports Hall, Kupang in Indonesia.

The Bacolod City pride won his ABF title last March via a technical knockout victory over Rodel Wenceslao.

Montano, during the pre-fight press conference, asked his fellow Negrenses to come and support him in this fight as he aims to bring pride and honor to his home town.

Suganob, on his part, said that he has prepared well for this fight and promised to give his best tonight.

Meanwhile, talking about how ABF has been helping Asian boxers for the last couple of years, boxing supervisor Dr. Nasser Cruz, said that the organization has served as boxers? stepping stone for bigger world title fights. ?More or less, 5 Filipinos are ABF title holders and 2 of them are scheduled to see action in the International Boxing Organization and World Boxing Organization world title fights,? he said.

Promoter Juan Ramon ?Monju? Guanzon? said that staging local boxing events helps homegrown talents to make names for themselves. ?This is one way of providing them the venue to be known,? he stressed. ?And, we are thankful that there are people like ABF President Naris Singwancha who helps in initiating this kind of event,? he added.

This boxing event is presented by Brico Santig and Monju?s Highland-Guanzon Boxing Promotion in cooperation with the Bacolod City Government and Mayor Bing Leonardia Boxing Development Program and sanctioned by the Games and Amusement Board headed by Chairman Abraham Kahlil Mitra.

Supporting bouts:

Herlan Gomez of Bacolod City vs. Anthony Gibuela of Cebu City for the 6 round fight at 114 pounds; Rodel Sioco of Bacolod City vs. Norie Larete Alvarado of Bacolod City for 4 rounds clash at 115 pounds; Ricky delos Santos of Bacolod City vs, Romy Anselmo of Antique for the 4 rounds battle at 110 lbs; Jonel Francisco of Murcia vs. Jones Gabby Layangga of Muntinlupa City for the 4 rounds at 105 lbs; and Jun Casugay of Bacolod City vs. Marlon Alejandro of Bacolod City for a 4 round clash at 105 lbs.
