WBC light flyweight world champion Ken Shiro of Japan and Jonathan Taconing of the Philippines successfully made weight during the official weighin Thursday at Edion Arena in Osaka, Japan. Shiro came in at 107.75 lbs while Taconing stepped the scales exactly at 108 lbs, the light flyweight limit.
Shiro, 27, who wrested the gold and green belt from Ganigan Lopez of Mexico in 2017, will defend the title for the 6th time against the 32-year-old Filipino mandatory challenger Friday night at the Edion Arena in Osaka.
Shiro (15-0-0, 8KOs) also defeated Pedro Gueverra, Lopez in a rematch, Gilberto Pedroza, Milan Milendo and Saul Juarez in an impressive defense of his title. Taconing (28-3-1, 22KOs) held the International version of the built since 2016 and became the No. 1 challenger when he defeated Vince Paras last September in Paranaque. Taconing lost to Ganigan Lopez on July 2, 2016 when he challenged for the same belt.
According to Taconing's manager Liza Elorde, who together with her husband Johnny are now in Osaka accompanying the Filipino challenger, Taconing promised to ?bring the crown to the Philippines and win by knockout.?
Third man in the ring for the fight is Frank Garza of the United States while the judges are Jun Bae Lim of Korea, Fernando Barbosa of the United States and Noppharat Sricharoen of Thailand.
