Bring Broner on -- Pacquiao (Photos)

LOS ANGELES: Confirming his handlers? pronouncement made as early as last week that he?s ready to fight anytime, World Boxing Association welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao said "why not now?"

Pacquiao?s chief trainer Buboy Fernandez revealed on Wednesday (Thursday Manila time), just a few minutes before his boyhood friend?s turn to appear before media men at the scheduled Media Day that Pacquiao?s body English as of late indicates he?s bored.

?Naiinip na at gusto na agad lumaban (He appreared bored and wants to fight ngayon na,? Buboy, told this writer while waiting for Pacquio to arrive at the Media Day, at the Wild Card Gym here.

It was and his training team made up also of conditioning coach Justin Fortune and assistant coaches Nonoy Neri and Roger ?Haplas?? Fernandez, who announced earlier that Pacquiao has already reached his peak and ready to defend his belt against the crown pretender.

The training team, indeed, looked to have made the proper adjustments in the manner they handled Pacquiao?s preparedness program and made sure his body won?t succumb to the rigor of daily training."

?Wala naman talagang naging problemang nangyari sa preparasyon. Yung gusto naming mangyari, natupad at nakita nang maaga, nandoon na even nang dumating si coach Freddie (Roach) (No problems really marked the training . We?ve achieved what we wanted to achieve),? Buboy added.

?Nang mag-peak, tamang-tama lang (He just peaked at the right time),? he said.

But the tapering off period, that followed the announcement seemed to bore Pacquiao, who had been known to train like a madman from the start until the end of th program.

The Broner fight will be Pacquiao?s 70th in the senator?s 24-year?s bout pro-career, and the 5th under former chief trainer Roach, who had been named consultant in this fight following a fallout when he lost his title to Australian Jeff Horn in 2017.

The reigning welterweight champion knows his hands will be full when he battles the hard-hitting Broner and is not thinking about his plans beyond. Not yet, anyway.

"At the age of 40, it's hard to think about future fights. Huwag muna," he said before working the mitts with Roach as the main highlight of the media day. "Just one at a time."

He dismissed concerns that he has lost the knockout power following his 12th round KO win over Miguel Cotto in 2009 to win, for the first time his seventh division belt.

"I still have it," Pacquiao assured who is 60-7-2 with 39 knockouts in his career.

"God is good," he said with a smile in response to a query about his reported desire to be the President of the Philippines. ?If God wants me to become president, it will happen.?
